The Canadian Love Map

Ted and Lillian's story is one of friendship, perseverance and equality. From a shared childhood in the 1940s to a romantic reconnection in the 1960s.

Today, Ted is 79 years old and would have been married to Lilian 54 years. Sadly she passed away in 2018, but their daughter Missy joined the conversation with our host Nancy Regan to share their amazing story.

They work on Parliament Hill, but politics has nothing to do with it. Some stories start with a chase, theirs started with a race. Jess and Jack's story is about understanding differences, challenging yourself and finding a connection in an unusual way. Sometimes a 'good luck in the race' can start something special. 

This is a love story like no other. It challenges your definition of what a family can be.

It’s about a group of people that never intended to seek out an extended family, but through international adoption and a desire to keep together, to love, learn and nurture, they  built a bond. A sisterhood. An extended family.

It was love at first sight.

Sometimes our wrong turns can teach you what you want in life. And that was the case for Marie. Her love life was a minefield of mistakes until she met Jamie.

After a brief long-distance relationship and a whirlwind romance, Marie and Jamie knew they had found something special … in each other.

Love can save your life, and Devin and Laura are living proof.

Devin and his twin brother were diagnosed with a degenerative liver disease. As Devin’s condition worsened to stage 4 liver failure, he was placed on the Canadian Transplant Registry to find a perfect match. Enter Laura. Not only his love but also a match. Having been together for three years and watching Devin manage the disease as a warrior and not a victim she offered the ultimate gift. Saved by love. 

 

This episode of the Canadian Love Map is about this balance. It’s about turning love inward and outward. You’ll meet Jay and Olivia, who will take you on a journey of discovery. About creating a unique space and helping others find their own way too.

Some say you have to learn how to love yourself before you can truly love someone else. But love is a journey. And the journey with gender isn’t about changing who you are, it’s about giving yourself space to bloom into the person you were meant to be.

This week’s love story is about a relationship that started as an onstage friendship that grew into a life of love and laughter. Bette and Maynard, a comedy couple that often played husband and wife to audiences across the globe, talk about turning laughter into love, and how trust is needed both on and off stage.

We are often our own worst critics and fail to see ourselves through the eyes of others. What we don't realize is, oftentimes this is the most positive version of ourselves.

For Jami, this manifested in the form of a dating website created by her good friend Sam. The website sparked a positive response to her from others, but most importantly a newfound confidence - one that she may not have found otherwise.

The saying “the sky’s the limit” takes on a new meaning for Dimitri Neonakis - a pilot with a passion for helping others and making dreams come true. His flight images of support have been a love letter to Canadians from the sky, representing unity in times of tragedy. Dimitri’s kindness poured into his program “Dream Wings”, where he gives children with special needs and disabilities a chance to join him in the sky with their own special flights.

For Tareq, an entrepreneur & chocolate maker, home was in Damascus, Syria, but he has since rebuilt a brand new life with his family in Canada. With him, Tareq brought with him a meaningful family tradition which has created a flourishing chocolate business - Peace By Chocolate. Tareq is now spreading joy not only with his delicious treats - but a steadfast commitment to helping other refugees, spreading a message of peace and to giving back to communities in need.

This week’s love story belongs to Alicia and Scott McCarvell - high school sweethearts and best friends who won the hearts of millions by inviting them into their daily lives through their addictive social media presence.

 

With Alicia leading the charge, their content brings joy and laughter to many. Her messages of self-love and body positivity and giving back inspire her fans every day. In this week’s very special episode, Scott & Charm Diamond Centres give Alicia the surprise of a lifetime.

This week’s love story belongs to Lindsay and Alex, whose wedding made a real splash. After the Pandemic postponed their nuptials, this cross-border couple got creative and planned a ceremony that not only solved their problem but also landed them in the international spotlight.
