This week on Canadian Love Map we are celebrating the maternal figures in our lives. In this special Mother’s Day episode, listeners and a few past guests are sharing their messages of love and gratitude. 

Maybe it’s biological. It could be a family friend, or even a mentor who helped contribute to the person we are today. Sometimes, it’s someone who is no longer with us, but who’s spirit still guides us through life. These are the relationships that shape us, and the stories that will stick with us forever.

There is nothing quite like a mother’s love.

Today's love story belongs to Dena Edwards Wadden. Imagine being diagnosed with a dangerous form of cancer at 33. That's exactly what happened to Dena just a few days after her daughter's second birthday.

But not only did she do well with her treatment, she turned the tables on ovarian cancer and created Teal To Heal, a community fundraiser event in support of women undergoing treatment for Ovarian cancer. To Dena's surprised, the community wrapped its arms around this event and surpassed all her goals, by a lot.

It's been called the largest free ovarian cancer fundraiser in Canada. And you need to know about it.

They say a picture paints a thousand words. A lot of times they do much more.

Today's love story belongs to Joe Napier. Jo's paintings tell the complex stories of great women of history. Her purpose driven pursuit, the Great Women Project, is creating portraits of female innovators whose place in history has not been adequately celebrated.

Her art graces the walls of Canadian corporate spaces, inspiring the next generation of female leaders. She is framing the past to influence the future. And that is love in action.

Today's love story belongs to Christina Martin and Dale Murray, two award-winning and multifaceted musicians. Christina is fierce and funny. He's calm and confident. She's in the spotlight, while he's often behind the scenes.

Their relationship had some bumps, but nothing this solid pair couldn't overcome. Somehow, this life partnership makes for the most beautiful music.

Imagine falling in love just as major world events are happening.

They met in 2018 when Matt, a Canadian playwright, travelled to Ukraine for a workshop. There, he met Mariya, an accomplished and passionate actor. They went from creative collaborators, to friends, to lovers, and eventually husband and wife. Oh, and new parents on top of it all. 

A lot of love stories have twists, turns and challenges but their love story has included a global pandemic and a tragic war. Not only did their relationship endure, it flourished. And now they're sharing it with audiences across Canada in a powerful new play called  "First Métis Man Of Odesa".

For some, building a family can be a gruelling journey. Sometimes you need some help.

This week on Canadian Love Map we are serving up a special INSIGHTS episode all about how to be better in the modern dating world. We know that love isn't a straight line and every once in a while it's normal to need a little course correction on the journey to finding a match. That's where dating coaches step in.

We welcome Sean Aucoin, a male dating coach with the Book of Love Canada to share his insights and provide some tips for males who are navigating the dating space. After learning the hard lessons himself as a new single, Sean aims to send better out into the world.

Today's love story belongs to Dani and her parents, Alison and Bryan, who also happened to be the inspiration for her now famous cocktail called The Liquid Love Letter.

Before Dani came along, Alison and Bryan were a young couple who decided to part ways. But when they both travelled to Guatemala for separate solo adventures, Bryan decided to write a love letter to Alison to get her back. Bryan's letter worked, and their trips turned into a romantic new beginning that led to their 36 year marriage.

Now, their daughter Dani has earned a top 30 finalist position in the World Class bartending competition and entered the national competition as an alternate. Much like this story, the Liquid Love Letter is equal measures of romance, travel, and adventure.

We are doing something a little different this week. We are celebrating International Women's Day by showcasing the amazing women in our lives. Too often, we forget to pause and give thanks to those who mean the most to us. Which is why on this podcast we're all about honoring the extraordinary qualities of ordinary people.

This week, we invited listeners and past guests to phone in offering their vocal tokens of appreciation for the incredible women in their lives: mothers, friends, mentors, and role models alike.
